Why change the names?[edit]

One question (upon reading the article, not the books): Why change the names, especially in rather transparent ways? Do the stories gain or lose from not using (say) Justinian's own name (and Constantinople's own name, for that matter)? Or perhaps better, what do the stories gain, and what do they lose, by changing the names? Jmacwiki (talk) 05:31, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • The question is not within the function of talk pages (which is to discuss the article, not its subject), but Kay has explained it as 'ethical', which I suppose gives him licence to change the plot from the historical facts to whatever fiction he wants to write. The ending of the story is completely different from the historical events. I know this topic is ten years old, but then this is not Reddit. m.e. (talk) 13:00, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
